Rebuilding my home.

My name is Betty Ross. On October 8th, 2016, Hurricane Matthew came through Hampton Roads and did tremendous damage. Four homes were condemned in Chesapeake and mine was one of them due to flooding. I did not know what to do. I was taken out of my home by rowboat by Chesapeake firemen. I applied for FEMA funds and while I was waiting to hear from them, Operation Blessing came and took out damaged furniture and carpets, tore down walls and tore up floors and anything else water-logged. I lost just about everything. Then Alex Frye with Faith Works Coalition came to me and told me they wanted to rebuild my home. I could not believe what I was hearing. These wonderful people wanted to help me. And help me they did. I received FEMA funds and since the labor was volunteered, my home was rebuilt. It took six months, with most of them being able to work on Saturdays only, but it was worth the wait. There were so many people willing to work on my home and make sure that I had a place to live. The generosity of these men and women is boundless. There have been so many folks helped by them. I believe they have worked on 762 projects for the community. And no end in sight. Gives us hope for the world to have people like them living on it. Thank you Alex, John, George and Gary and everyone else who helped. I will never forget your generosity.
