From Tragedy – To Blessing

Faith Works Coalition came in contact in 2009 with a 68 year-old widow living in the Blackwater area of Virginia Beach living on $696/month on social security income.  As a result of caring for her husband during a prolonged illness, she exhausted all family savings.  As a result, she let her fire insurance lapse and shortly after, a fire struck her home forcing her to leave her home and live with her Sister and Mother next door.  Despite the temporary move, the widow had to pay over $300/month for the mortgage for her fire stricken home.  Faith Works Coalition pulled together community financial and volunteer resources to rebuild the widow’s home.  Faith Works Coalition managed the rebuild efforts of this estimated $25k project that covered material costs.
